New Irish citizens elated at ceremonies, but sympathetic for friends facing stricter rules
5,600 people will become Irish citizens at ceremonies this week.
One new citizen said she cried when the Irish anthem was played during the ceremony.
The ceremonies are happening against the backdrop of new, stricter rules that will apply to future applications.
Minister for State Colm Brophy has said new rules are expected to come into effect around the end of this year.
